New Delhi, 9th May 2025: In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Friday the postponement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The decision came after consultations with the central government, marking a rare but necessary action in light of the national security situation.

A BCCI official confirmed the postponement to PTI, stating, “It does not look good that the country is at war and cricket is being played.” The IPL 2025 final, which was scheduled to be held in Kolkata on May 25, will now be delayed until further notice.

Earlier, the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) had also been moved to the UAE due to the heightened tensions. The BCCI’s decision to postpone IPL 2025 comes as a precautionary measure in response to the volatile environment.

The IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, which was scheduled for Thursday in Dharamsala, was abruptly called off. The match had been underway with Punjab Kings batting first, scoring 122 runs in 10.1 overs. However, the game was halted when one of the floodlights at the stadium went out, followed by a complete blackout as all the floodlights were turned off. Spectators were safely evacuated from the venue.

The suspension of the match was a direct result of heightened security concerns in the region. Reports indicate that a drone attack from Pakistan triggered a blackout in the nearby cities of Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur, all of which are located close to Dharamsala. In response, India conducted retaliatory strikes, destroying six Pakistani missiles and successfully shooting down several drones.
