Maval, 19th June 2025: Heavy rain has wreaked havoc across Maval taluka in Pune district, causing widespread flooding and traffic disruptions. The continuous downpour has led to the old Mumbai-Pune National Highway being completely submerged at Vadgaon Maval, creating major hurdles for commuters and transport vehicles.

The Potoba Maharaj Temple, a significant spiritual site for locals in Maval, has also been inundated. The road in front of the temple is under water, forcing devotees and passersby to wade through knee-deep water. Meanwhile, Naigaon, Kamshet, and Lonavala have reported similar conditions, with roads submerged and water accumulation disrupting normal life.

Local residents and motorists are struggling to navigate through the waterlogged roads, and officials have urged extreme caution while travelling through affected areas. “Water levels are rising rapidly, and visibility on the highway is poor. Citizens should avoid unnecessary travel,” a local police officer said.

In Lonavala city, heavy rainfall has led to swift water flow from the steps of Bhushi Dam, a popular tourist destination. Authorities have strongly advised tourists to stay away from the dam area for safety reasons. In the last 24 hours, Lonavala has received over 200 mm rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to continue over the next 48 hours in Maval and surrounding regions. With already saturated soil and overflowing drains, there is an increased risk of flash floods in low-lying areas.

Emergency services are on standby, and district officials have appealed to residents to remain alert and report any hazardous situations.
