Pune, 9th June 2025: In a significant move to streamline revenue dispute resolution and enhance administrative efficiency, Maharashtra’s first Revenue Lok Adalat was inaugurated in Pune. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, speaking at the event, announced that the Maharashtra Government will provide advanced multipurpose vehicles to revenue department headquarters across Pune, Nashik, Amravati, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Konkan divisions this year. This initiative is expected to improve infrastructure and support officials in delivering timely services.

The inauguration ceremony at the Pune District Collectorate was attended by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, local legislators, senior administrative officials, and legal professionals. The Revenue Lok Adalat, organized for the first time in the state, aims to address the massive backlog of revenue-related cases by providing a platform for amicable settlements. The Pune district has set an example by placing over 11,500 cases before the Lok Adalat, with the goal of reducing the total pending revenue disputes from over 31,000 to 10,000 through regular quarterly sessions.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawar emphasized the importance of equipping officials with necessary resources while expecting high performance. He highlighted that resolving nearly 11,000 cases through the Lok Adalat will significantly reduce the burden on both the revenue department and the judiciary, saving time, money, and effort for citizens and the administration. Settlements reached through mutual consent are expected to foster peace and harmony in villages, ending long-standing land and property disputes.

Revenue Minister Bawankule declared that the successful Pune model will be replicated across Maharashtra, benefiting the general public by delivering quick and fair justice. The state currently faces a backlog of three to three and a half lakh revenue cases, ranging from the level of Naib Tehsildar to the Ministry. The Lok Adalat will leverage artificial intelligence and active cooperation from parties and lawyers to expedite settlements.

The government is also set to implement several reforms, including a new sand mining policy and the integration of e-governance systems like e-mutation and e-rights registration. These measures are anticipated to boost state revenue by Rs 20,000 crore and bring greater transparency to the revenue department. Additionally, a state-of-the-art training center for officers, modeled after Mussoorie’s academy, will be established on a 120-acre site at Yashada.

The Revenue Lok Adalat initiative is poised to transform the landscape of revenue dispute resolution in Maharashtra, promoting transparency, efficiency, and citizen-centric governance.
