Pune: 12 Kg Ganja Worth Rs 3 Lakh Seized in Lohgaon; One Arrested

Lohgaon, 26th June 2025: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Pune Airport Police have seized 12 kilograms of ganja worth approximately ₹3 lakh and arrested a man in Lohgaon’s Karmabhumi Nagar area. The accused has been identified as Akhilesh Garib Mandal (34), a resident of Lohgaon.
Acting on a tip-off received by Sub-Inspector Nitin Rathod, a team laid a trap and apprehended Mandal. Upon searching a cloth bag in his possession, police discovered a large quantity of ganja. Mandal, who works as a construction laborer, has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband.
The operation was executed under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Govind Jadhav of the Airport Police Station and Crime Branch Inspector Ashalata Khapare. The team included PSI Nitin Rathod, and constables Rupesh Pissal, Shailesh Naik, Rakesh Chandekar, Ankush Jogdande, and Dadasaheb Barde.
Just two days earlier, a youth was arrested for ganja possession in Yerwada, highlighting the growing concern over drug trafficking in the city. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has instructed all units to intensify actions against drug peddlers and trace supply networks through the thorough interrogation of arrested individuals.
