Pune: 17-Year-Old Robbed at Knifepoint on Taljai Hill, Gold Chain Worth Rs 1.5 Lakh Snatched

Pune, 23rd May 2025: In a second alarming incident within days, a 17-year-old boy was robbed at knifepoint on Taljai Hill, with thieves snatching his gold chain worth ₹1.5 lakh. This comes shortly after a Korean engineer was robbed during a morning walk at Baner Hill on May 17.
The latest incident occurred around 7 am on Monday, May 20, when the teenager, a resident of Aranyeshwar, had gone for a walk near Taljai Mata temple. Two unidentified men stopped him and, brandishing a sharp weapon, threatened him before forcibly snatching his gold chain.
The youth later lodged a complaint at Sahakarnagar Police Station, and based on his description, police have launched a manhunt for the suspects. Assistant Police Inspector Sagar Patil is leading the investigation.
This robbery has raised renewed concerns over public safety in Pune’s hill areas. In recent years, there have been similar incidents of robbery reported from Baner Hill and Hanuman Hill. Last year, a college student was gang-raped at Bopdev Ghat, prompting public outrage.
In response to these crimes, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had approved special funds for enhancing security in these areas. Plans include the installation of CCTV cameras, panic button systems, and regular police patrolling. While Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has issued directives to intensify security, locals report that these measures are yet to be fully implemented on the ground.
