Pune, 28th April 2025: Adiba Anam, the daughter of an auto-rickshaw driver from Yavatmal, has become Maharashtra’s first Muslim woman to join the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) after securing an impressive 142nd rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024. Her achievement is being celebrated across the state, especially as she hails from a modest background and overcame significant financial challenges to reach this milestone.

Speaking at a felicitation event in Pune, Adiba emphasised that the UPSC exam should not be given undue importance, while becoming an IAS officer is a significant accomplishment. “Many have made this exam their entire life, but it’s just a small part of life. Success or failure in this exam does not determine your worth,” she stated, encouraging students to pursue their goals with determination but not to equate exam results with personal value.

Adiba shared her journey, highlighting the sacrifices made by her parents and the support from her maternal uncle, which enabled her to continue her education despite financial hardships. She stressed the importance of consistent effort and self-belief, noting that every aspirant’s path is unique and that students should focus on their own strategies rather than comparing themselves to others.

Adiba also addressed the broader purpose of civil service, asserting that one can contribute to society in many ways, regardless of exam outcomes. She reaffirmed her commitment to serving with integrity and upholding her values as she embarks on her career as an IAS officer.
