Shivajinagar, 5th June 2025: Following the tragic stampede in Bengaluru that claimed 11 lives during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL victory celebration, a similar incident of public disorder has prompted police action in Pune. A criminal case has been registered at Deccan Police Station against over 40 RCB fans for obstructing traffic and disturbing public peace during late-night celebrations.

According to Police Sub-Inspector Dattatraya Sawant, the incident occurred on 3rd June around 11:30 PM near Goodluck Café Chowk on Fergusson College Road (FC Road), a popular gathering spot for cricket fans. A large group reportedly gathered to celebrate RCB’s maiden IPL title win over Punjab Kings in the final held in Ahmedabad.

The complaint states that around 30 to 40 individuals burst loud firecrackers, blocked roads, created a public nuisance, and ignored repeated police instructions. The unruly celebrations, which lasted for more than an hour, caused significant inconvenience to pedestrians and motorists.

A case has been registered under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant, along with relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.
