Pune: Hagawane Family’s Legal Troubles Mount as Fraud and Criminal Intimidation Case Filed by Pimpri-Chinchwad Police

Pimpri-Chinchwad, 29th May 2025: The troubles for the Hagawane family, already embroiled in the tragic case involving the death of Vaishnavi Hagawane, have intensified with the registration of a new fraud case at Mahalunge MIDC Police Station. The latest allegations involve fraudulent dealings related to the purchase of JCB excavators, with Prashant Yelwande filing a complaint accusing the family of cheating and intimidation.
According to the complaint, in March 2022, Lata and Shashank Hagawane acquired JCB machines worth Rs 24 lakh from Yelwande, paying an advance of Rs 5 lakh. It later emerged that the machines still carried outstanding EMIs of Rs 19 lakh with IndusInd Bank, which the Hagawanes were supposed to pay at Rs 50,000 per month. Despite receiving a further Rs 6.70 lakh from Yelwande, Lata Hagawane allegedly failed to pay the EMIs and instead diverted the funds elsewhere. As a result, the bank seized the JCBs in 2024 for non-payment, leaving Yelwande without his machines or his money.
Yelwande claims that when he demanded his money back, he was threatened with a gun by the Hagawane family and sent away under duress. He subsequently filed a formal complaint at the Mahalunge MIDC Police Station under the jurisdiction of Pimpri-Chinchwad Police.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Dr. Shivaji Pawar confirmed that a complaint has been received and that the process of registering the crime is underway at Mahalunge MIDC Police Station. “We have received a complaint, and a process of registering the crime is ongoing at Mahalunge MIDC Police Station,” he stated.
