Warje, 25th May 2025: A Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus got stuck into a large pothole near the Warje-Malwadi bus stop on Sunday morning, triggering widespread anger over the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) alleged failure to ensure road safety during the monsoon season.

The incident took place around 10 AM when bus number MH 12-XX-1234 was navigating the stretch and its front wheel suddenly sank into a deep pothole. The road had reportedly been excavated recently and left exposed, with no barricades or caution signs. Continuous rain over the past few days had further weakened the surface, causing the road to cave in.

The bus tilted dangerously, sparking panic among the passengers. However, quick thinking by the driver ensured a safe and orderly evacuation. No injuries were reported.

Eyewitnesses said the area had been dug up just days earlier, yet no warning signs or safety measures had been implemented. “This is sheer negligence. If the driver hadn’t reacted swiftly, things could have gone horribly wrong,” said Rohit Jadhav, a local resident who witnessed the scene.

The incident has once again put the spotlight on PMC’s lack of preparedness during the rainy season.

“The administration’s carelessness is unacceptable. How many accidents will it take for them to act?” questioned Anjali Deshpande, a commuter who travels through the area daily.

Residents have also raised alarms about similar hazardous spots across the city.
