Pune: PMPML Fare Hike Comes Into Effect from Today; Daily and Monthly Passes Get Costlier

Pune, 1st June 2025: Commuters across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and PMRDA areas will now have to shell out more for public transport as the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has implemented a long-pending fare hike from June 1, marking the first revision in 11 years.
Under the new fare structure, the minimum ticket price has doubled — from ₹5 to ₹10 for the first 2 km. Daily pass prices have been significantly increased:
- ₹70 in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad (up from ₹40)
- ₹150 in PMRDA areas (up from ₹120)
Monthly passes have seen a steep hike from ₹900 to ₹1,500.
New Fare Slabs Based on Distance
The revised fare structure has been divided into 11 distance-based slabs. Here’s a snapshot of the starting slabs:
- 0–5 km: ₹10
- 5.1–10 km: ₹20
- 10.1–15 km: ₹30
- 15.1–20 km: ₹40
PMPML operates approximately 1,600 buses across Pune city, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and surrounding PMRDA regions. The fare hike aligns PMPML with recent revisions made by other urban transport bodies such as Mumbai’s BEST and Nagpur City Bus.
The fare revision was approved by the PMPML Board of Directors and has now been officially enforced.
Digital Systems Updated for New Fares
To support the rollout, PMPML has made updates to:
- E-ticketing systems
- Mobile app
- National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) integration
Conductors have been issued updated fare charts, and backend systems have been calibrated to clearly display distance slabs and bus stops, helping reduce confusion for passengers.
Why the Hike?
Despite rising fuel and operational costs, PMPML had maintained the same fare structure since 2013. The latest revision aims to ensure service sustainability while improving the commuting experience.
“We have expanded routes and improved services, addressing long-standing issues in PMPML operations,” said Dr. Deepa Mudhol-Munde, Chairman and Managing Director of PMPML.
The administration has appealed to passengers to cooperate with the fare changes and adopt digital payment options to ease the transition.
