Pune, 23rd May 2025: A shocking case of police misconduct has surfaced in Pune, where a constable from the Pune City Police allegedly misused his authority to extort ₹10,000 from a truck driver. The accused, posted at Sinhagad Road Police Station, has been suspended following a departmental inquiry.

According to the complaint, Bapurao Popat Dhole, a police constable attached to the Sinhagad Road Police Station, stopped a truck near the Khed Shivapur tunnel on the morning of April 15. Driving a private four-wheeler (registration number TN 18 BL 2658), Dhole flagged down the truck by showing his police baton.

He allegedly accused the driver of using a mobile phone while driving and threatened a fine of ₹15,000, along with legal action. Dhole reportedly forced the truck driver into his own vehicle, abused and assaulted him, and then coerced him into paying ₹10,000.

The driver, identified as Rahulkumar Shivnath Yadav, a resident of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, was taken to a goggle stall on Katraj Road, where he was made to transfer ₹10,000 online to the stall operator. Dhole then collected the cash from the stall.

Following Yadav’s formal complaint, an internal inquiry was conducted. During the probe, Dhole returned the ₹10,000 and issued an apology.
However, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sambhaji Kadam ordered Dhole’s suspension, citing gross misconduct and behaviour detrimental to the integrity of the police force.

The Pune Police have confirmed that further investigation into the incident is underway.
