Pune: Two Tourists Drown in Bhushi Dam Backwaters in Lonavala While Enjoying Rainy Outing

Lonavala, 8th June 2025: Two young men tragically drowned on Sunday in the backwaters of Bhushi Dam while enjoying a monsoon outing in the popular hill station of Lonavala.
The deceased have been identified as Sahil Ashraf Ali Shaikh (19) and Mohammad Jamal (22), both originally from Uttar Pradesh and residing in Thergaon, Pimpri Chinchwad.
According to the Shivdurg Rescue Team, the duo had entered the water despite warnings and drowned in the strong current of the backwaters. Upon receiving the alert, the rescue team rushed to the scene and successfully recovered both bodies.
Local authorities have been informed, and further investigation is underway. Visitors have once again been urged to exercise caution near water bodies, especially during the monsoon season when water levels rise rapidly and currents can be unpredictable.
