Rains Cripple Pune-Nashik Highway, 5 KM Traffic Jam Near Chakan Adds to Road Woes

Pune, 26th May 2025: Persistent heavy rains continue to disrupt life across Pune, with a massive traffic jam choking the Pune-Nashik Highway near Chakan on Monday. Vehicles remained stuck in a nearly five-kilometer-long bottleneck, leaving thousands of commuters frustrated and delayed for hours.

The jam extended from Alandi Phata to Manjari Complex on the Pune-bound lane. Chakan, home to a major industrial hub, witnesses massive daily inflows of workers and cargo, and connects Pune to Nashik, making it one of the busiest and most vulnerable stretches. The narrow width of the road adds to the misery, with long-standing public demand for its expansion repeatedly ignored.

Stranded commuters were left fuming as local police attempted to decongest the area amid continuous rainfall. Despite their efforts, hours-long delays have become routine on rain-affected routes, painting a grim picture of the city’s preparedness for monsoons.
